Challenge:
24-year-old Samuel Otieno had access to abundant banana plantations in Kisii County but lacked both the know-how to process banana fiber and reliable buyers for his handcrafted baskets and home décor. What started as a weekend hobby barely covered his material costs.
Our Solution:
We showed Samuel how to extract, clean and dye banana fiber sustainably, turning plantation waste into a premium raw material. Through our “Market Access & Investment Facilitation” program, Samuel attended a regional craft expo where we coached him on booth presentation and pricing strategies.
Small-group coaching sessions helped him build confidence in negotiating contracts and managing cash flow.
